 Purpose of Visit

 Impact on Children at Cononley School



 John Evans

Chair of Governors meetings with the Headteacher. 

 The Chair of Governors has a good working knowledge of the school and is able to provide challenge and support to the headteacher and ensure that the school is well led and managed.



 Rachel Price Waite

 To attend Open Day and promote the school to prospective parents. 

 The governors are ensuring that the school has a high profile and that numbers on role remain buoyant to secure the long term financial position of the school. 


 Katie Mason

To attend a Reading and Phonics meeting for parents of new Reception children and to learn about the way on which children are taught to read at Cononley Primary School. 

 The governors are informed about the way in which phonics is taught in school including phonics Reading Schemes and other resources which are used. Governors are aware how parents and carers are supported to help their children to learn to read.

To observe a Fire Evacuation Practice

Governors know that staff and children are kept safe because they take part in termly fire practices and are clear about the evacuation procedures.

To monitor the procedures for recording and monitoring behaviour incidents. 

Governors know that children are safe because behaviour incidents are recorded and responded to. Incidents and actions are recorded so that they can be analysed. There is a system in place to share relevant information with staff.

 Governors know that there are robust systems in place to support pupils with SEND.

To monitor the PE curriculum and the Sport Premium Funding

Governors know how PE is taught throughout school, including assessment, progression of skills and pupils' opinions. Governors know that the Sport Funding is being spent effectively to improve the long term provision for PE.

To monitor the History Curriculum in KS2

Governors know how the History curriculum is being taught at KS2 including curriculum content, progression of skills and pupils' opinions.

To carry out a premises check with the Headteacher. 

Governors know that the building is a safe and well-maintained place for pupils to learn.
